Florida Prepares for Katrina

(Of course my heart and prayers go out to the victims of this terrible storm. This post was made before the storm hit, and reflected the creepy feeling I got having a major storm named after me. You can contribute to help the storm victims through the American Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-NOW, or donate online to the Atlanta Chapter at http://www.atlantaredcross.org/.)

Okay, I've been to Florida a few times, mainly Spring Breaks when I was younger, but now after Googling my name, it seems I've become famous in the Sunshine State.

Katrina's center was located about 55 miles (88 kilometers) east of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, according to an advisory from the U.S. National Hurricane Center at 11 a.m. Miami time. Katrina is moving west at 6 mph (10 kph), with maximum sustained winds of almost 60 mph, and is expected to hit the southeastern Florida coast tonight or tomorrow morning.

Why the U.S. National Hurricane Center is monitoring my whereabouts is a mystery to me, but they're wrong! I'm still in Georgia. And my "center"? Are they saying I'm big? I've always been quite slim. If the people of Florida really want me to visit, they should choose their words more carefully.

Because Katrina is moving slowly, she will have time to dump as much as 15 inches of rain on some parts of the state.

I've never been a litter-bug!

FPL braces Florida nukes for Katrina
Florida Power & Light Co. prepared its two Florida nuclear power stations -- St Lucie and Turkey Point -- for the approach of Katrina.

What do they think I'm going to do? Run into their nuclear power stations and start randomly pushing buttons?

Katrina continues intensifying as she creeps toward South Florida landfall tonight
Slowing her approach, Katrina continued intensifying and churning toward South Florida, with landfall projected early tonight.

I'm not a mean or intense person, and I'm not sneaky. I won't "creep" into Florida, they don't have to lock up their nuclear facilities, and I won't "churn" like some butter-ridden giant whale.

I think I'll stay in Georgia.

Awhile back I posted on things that happened throughout history on my birthday. Among them were multiple nuclear bomb tests.

Hmmmm....maybe not something to make fun of, now that I see how bad it is after it was over.

That's crazy.

Yes, it's been pretty bad. I've been hearing very scary reports. I hope they save as many people as possible.
