This is Belle (on the left) and Bubba. Belle is a recent addition to my friend's home, where Bubba and two other cats have long ruled the roost. Belle is still fairly young and far too boisterous for any of the cats' tastes, but they have been extremely curious about their new large furry companion. Belle has constantly been trying to get the cats to play with her, and she'll bring her toys to the cats and drop the toys on the floor in front of them. But the cats run away. One of the cats, Benny, has even taken to attacking poor Belle at every opportunity. Belle takes it in stride and persists in trying to get closer. Finally, one evening, as my friend was sitting in the chair with Bubba in her lap, she got up to get something from the kitchen. And this is what she found when she returned.

When I was a young teenager we had two cats who barely tolerated each other. One day I came home and they were standing right next to each other, looking totally exhausted. I soon saw that one of them had their claw stuck in the other's tail! Who knows how long they'd been like that?
