I don't know yet as we just got it. I loved the series when it first came out. I'm hoping it won't be too dated :)
LOL this is great.

If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do? Everyone becomes fully Realized. I like it.
The book is Winning With the Trompowsky, a chess book by GM Peter Wells :)
Ooooh I see that makes perfect sense LOL
I don't think it will take you much time to learn PHP or Sql.
My friend, Daniel, is a webdesigner, and I bet he'd help you. He has helped me make webpages in the past, and he loves meeting new people. I bet he has over a hundred internet friends, and makes more every day, so I don't feel bad giving you his AIM SN: JazzGrooveTheory or his Yahoo!SN: whatsupshaw. I'm not kidding about asking him, I know he'd help you.
Thanks for the info on Daniel :) I'll get in touch with him. I don't think it will take long either. I've been programming professionally for a long time, but I'm a newbie at dynamic content web sites. I understand all the concepts and architecture, but I'm sure there are some "tricks of the trade" that a seasoned veteran could offer to save me some time.
I took php & MySQL last Fall. If you already know a language or a scripting language, php will be pretty easy. If you already know SQL, then MySQL will be pretty easy, since it'll just be a matter of learning the quirks.
If you've never had a language or a scripting language, or if you don't know SQL, then it's going to be a more vigorous workout for you.
James,
Yep, it's the quirks. And an architectural question. I'm used to developing distributed enterprise systems, where you have at least 3 basic logical tiers: presentation/web server, application server, and database server. So all your web server code only knows about the app tier (and never talks to the database directly). And the app tier has all the "business logic". I'm concerned that since PHP is parsing text every time that this might be too slow, and I wonder if people generally have the web tier talk directly to the database (and don't really have a separate app tier) for personal web sites. I've noticed Dreamweaver generates PHP code with this 2-tier model. Even though this will all be running on one physical machine in my case, having the 3 tiers produces a more robust system.
Wow, you're way over my head with that. I'm just wading into it with my pants legs rolled up.
But that said, I think the PHP speed would depend on how much it has to deal with. For a lot of simple web pages where you don't need a lot, it's great. If you're just tooling around town, php and MySQL are great. But you wouldn't take it to Daytona...
Hey there FragileKitty, just passing by today. I've bookmarked you.
Adi Da Incense, huh? :-) Best, isn't it? I like the Rose.
(Sungroove, that's the CUTEST photo..)
Love Rob Zombie! I'd love a Starbucks Latte's also.
